I certify that the pension which may be paid to the Applicant according to the Rules of the Colonial Service, amounts to One thousand nine hundred and Eighty-four Dollars ($1,984).
and I base my Certificate on the following calculation :-
Mr. Barff entered the Service on 20th November 1868 and retires on 31st March 1895.
On that date he will have been absent Eight months on half-pay leave. This service therefore allowing 1 month for every 5 years of service to 26 years accordingly is 26 x 5 = 5 years 2 months; the pay of the post he has held during the last three years; $3840, the pension is $1984.
And the leave in 1883 may be counted in full for pension.
